The Council of the Energy Agency of the Republic of Serbia has adopted a decision on the approval of the Transmission System Development Plan for 2019 - 2028 and of Investment Plan for 2019 – 2021 which were adopted by the Joint Stock Company “Elektromreža Srbije” (EMS AD) as the Transmission System Operator.
 
The ten-year transmission system operation plan was drafted in line with the Energy Law and with the Energy Sector Development Strategy of the Republic of Serbia until 2025 with projections until 2030. And the Program for the Realisation of the Strategy. Priority goals and activities include the provision of secure electricity supply, electricity market development on the national and regional level, increase in transmission capacities and the development of corridors via the Republic of Serbia of regional and Pan-European importance. The demand on the side of the distribution system operator related to the construction of new facilities, demand related to the development of the production system of the Republic of Serbia, review of processed applications for connection of facilities to the transmission system, EMS AD demand within projects on interconnection with neighbouring systems and the demand related to the reconstruction of the power network served as the grounds for transmission system development planning.

The three-year investment plan describes investment demand from national, regional and European aspect. Meeting this demand has a considerable impact to the increase of transmission capacities in the regional transmission network, and, thereby to the development of the electricity market in Europe. From the national aspect, the plan included the demand in terms of construction of the power infrastructure which will enable the increase in transmission capacities, market development on the national level, increase of transmission system reliability and security of customers’ supply and increased options for the connection of new conventional and renewable electricity sources.
